Official sues journalist for publicizing information about his previous conviction

22.01.2013, 07:49
On January 23, 2013, a trial in Ivano-Frankivsk will examine a suit against Ruslan Kotsaba, chief editor of "Narodne OKO" Internet-resource, brought on the fact of spreading the information about local official’s previous conviction on Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, Versii reported.

The suit against the journalist was brought by Party of Regions deputy and head of the internal security department of the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast Tax administration Vassyl Stroyich, in order to protect his honor, dignity and business reputation.

Journalist Kotsaba insists that Stroyich forged his workbook and military ID record about his service in the army, which was already proved by the court of first instance.

"I, being a journalist, conducted a thorough investigation of corrupt ties between senior regional tax administration, the regional prosecutor's office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Ivano-Frankivsk region ... Upon receiving certain documents, the source of which, in line with the current legislation, I am not going to disclose, I found out that the internal security department head is, actually, a werewolf in uniform. And I proved it with respective scans of documents, which I posted in the Internet "- the journalist wrote.

Kotsaba also noted that he used to repeatedly inform the State Tax Administration leadership (O.Klymenko), SBU (M.Kalinin), the Prosecutor’s General Office (V.Pshonka), and the Ministry of Interior (V.Zaharchenko) about "the shameful forgery of documents for the sake of personal benefit".

"I has been informed by reliable sources that Prime Minister Azarov issued a written order to investigate the facts about colonel werewolf V.Stroyich, and that the Oblast prosecutor’s office has opened respective criminal proceedings," - said Kotsaba.

"Now, as a journalist, I regard the proceedings against me as an open pressure, and assess the suit as an attempt to shut my mouth " - said Kotsaba.
