Odessa TV channel warned for illegal use of NewsOne’s logo

Photo credit: prm.ua The National television and radio broadcasting council has issued a warning to Olvia TV channel in Odessa for having broken the requirements of licenses and the law in force. The regulator made the decision at Thursday's meeting, as Ukrinform reported. Thus, during the unscheduled inspection, the National council noted that the licensee did not comply with the license terms as to programme concept of broadcasting. In particular, they found out that Olvia had reduced the share of its own production, namely cultural, artistic, educational, entertainment and children's programs, as well as film screenings. Besides that, the licensee changed its logo. Under license, this should be Olvia, but in fact, Olvia and NewsOne are actually fused, as well as Olvia retransmitted the programs of NewsOne for a total of 19 hours 45 minutes a day. For her part, Olvia TV spokeswoman Nadezhda Kovaleva said that on March 7, the company Renome Inet signed an agreement with NewsOne, LLC on joint production of the programs. She also explained the presence of two logos, referring to the Article 46 of the Law on television and radio broadcasting, the broadcaster must indicate the source data specified in the license, but at the same time there are no restrictions on the use of other emblems during the broadcasting. However, the NewsOne logo, she said, was also used to inform about the producer of the content. Kovalyova called the reduction of the share as insignificant and unintentional, explaining that it took place only within one day and happened due to a fault of the editor, who was immediately reprimanded. She therefore asked members of the regulator not to apply sanctions, but to make some additional verifications. Kovalyova added that the NewsOne’s logo has no longer been used on the air. At the same time, deputy head of the National Council Ulyana Feshchuk argued that if Olvia and NewsOne were indeed producing a joint product, as it is stated, the logo would not change. The National Council confirmed the fact of violation of the Law of Ukraine on television and radio broadcasting. Thus, the regulator announced the warnings to the TV channel and obliged them to rectify wrongdoings within two weeks.
