Odesa Mayor wants to sue First City TV channel for Hurvits’ statement

Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov filed a claim with Prymorsky Court on rebuttal of the published information. The First City TV channel was listed as one of his claim’s defendants.  

The mayor did not like what his major opponent on the mayoral elections, Eduard Hurvits, told about him. In the TV debates, to which Trukhanov failed to come, his opponent accused him, in particular, of personal complicity for the tragedy on May 2 in Odesa (when more than 40 people died in the fire).

The First City TV channel’s lawyers filed a counter claim as according to the law a TV channel cannot be held responsible for what is said on live broadcast.
