“NewsOne” considers summon for questioning as pressure from public authorities

10.07.2019, 18:06
The NewsOne TV channel claimed to be under pressure of public authorities, since its employees received summons for questioning in the context of the criminal prosecution opened by the Prosecutor General's Office and the Security Service of Ukraine, as it is said in the NewsOne statement made public July 10th, Interfax-Ukraine reported. "The GPU and the SBU opened a criminal proceeding, due to which the summons for questioning were sent. Public accusations sounded by senior government officials, as well as by a number of political forces, do not subsist. All this is a direct pressure on journalists and the entire creative team of the NewsOne TV channel, "the statement said. The television channel claimed that in the past, the authorities exerted pressure onto uncontrolled media outlets by means of inspections and threats to ban some activity. "These same methods are employed now to intimidate the employees of the NewsOne channel. Particularly brutal harassment is observed on the eve of the election ... The NewsOne team requires the authorities to immediately stop the harassment and pressure on the TV channel on the eve of the election, and to comply with the laws of Ukraine, "the statement said.
