Network CitySites under massive cyber attack

On April 22, the network CitySites was under a massive cyber attack, which caused a number of regional websites to go down. This was reported to ф IMI representative by the network’s editor-in-chief Hanna Romanenko. According to her, the attack was focused mainly on websites of Mariupol – 0629 and the website of Donetsk – 062. Yet, the majority of other websites was also harmed by it. In particular, operation of websites of Zaporizhzhya (061.ua), Kryvyi Rih (0564.ua) and Dnipropetrovsk (056.ua) was disrupted. The attack caused serious hardware malfunctions, but they have been mostly fixed by now. The administration did not report the attack to law enforcement agencies, as they do not believe they are able and willing to do something about it. Romanenko said that she thinks that attacks were due to political reasons - the websites of Donetsk and Mariupol are one of the few reliable sources of information for people on the occupied territories.
