Natalya Humeniuk appointed deputy chief of communications at the OC South

05.06.2024, 15:31

Natalya Humeniuk has been appointed the deputy director of the Joint Coordination Press Center of the Southern Ukraine Defense Forces, reports Detector Media. Humeniuk confirmed this in a comment to the media outlet.

She noted that the appointment was not recent, but said she could not disclose the dates. "When an officer is appointed to a position it is classified information. I am currently the deputy chief of communications of the Operational Command 'South'. My mandate includes everything related to the communications of OC South," Gumenyuk said.

She said that she had ran the Joint Coordination Press Center of the Southern Ukraine Defense Forces for two and a half years and has now been officially appointed deputy chief of communications for OC "South".

"There is some difference here, if only in the fact that now it is not the Defense Forces, which is a somewhat different entity, but the OC 'South'. This department was created during the communications reform in the Armed Forces as a whole. It is a relatively new structure, but its main purpose is to improve communications while remembering the conclusions drawn since the start of the full-scale invasion," Natalya Humeniuk said.

On April 16, multiple media workers signed an address to the military command on Natalya Humeniuk's work.

The media workers said that Natalya Humeniuk was barring them from covering Russia's war crimes in the area she supervises. They demanded that the military command replace Natalya Humeniuk "with a more competent person and keep her out of communications management of any kind."

The journalists also demanded access to parts of the Kherson oblast.

The address was signed by the Ukrainian media association "Media Movement", as well as over 150 representatives of Ukrainian and foreign media outlets.

On April 17, the head of the Joint Coordination Center of the Southern Ukraine Defense Forces, Natalya Humeniuk, said that the facts in the media's address asking for her dismissal were listed without any proof.

On April 19, 2024, Natalya Humeniuk was dismissed from her post as chief of strategic communications of the South Defense Forces and replaced by Dmytro Pletenchuk.
