Mykolaiv: journalist won the appeal in case against police

21.02.2017, 13:16

Odesa Administrative Court of Appeal decided to leave unchanged the decision of Mykolaiv Court, which ordered the police to provide correspondent of the online edition "Prestupnosti.NET" Andriy Lokhmatov, with  list of names and positions of all staff departments.

IMI regional correspondent in Mykolaiv region reports.

Recall, on July 2016, Lokhmatov send an informational request to colonel Yevgeny Kovtun for the list of all employees of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Mykolaiv region. The colonel provided correspondent only with a list of names and positions only heads of territorial divisions of Mykolaiv police. According to Kovtun, other information is restricted.
However, the journalist filed a lawsuit to the Mykolaiv Regional Administrative Court and won the case: the court ordered the police to provide journalist with a full list of all employees.

Meanwhile, the Department of National Police in Mykolaiv region did not agree with this decision and filed a complaint to the Administrative Court of Appeal of Odesa. The Appeal Court considered the matter and decided to reject the police and leave the court of first instance unchanged.
