Merkel warns against fake news -Die Zeit

Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) has warned at the opening of the new headquarters of the Federal Intelligence Service against the dangers of misinformation campaigns. "We have to learn to deal with the fake news as part of hybrid warfare," Merkel said, as Die Zeit reported. "In my opinion, this is one of the crucial decisions for the future security and the social cohesion in Germany," said the Chancellor. Often, the fake news also target the state propaganda. "We have to face reality," she said, saying the BND has a special role in a rapid analysis of who was behind such attacks. Merkel said: "In the face of the crises, Germany needs a strong and efficient intelligence service more urgently than ever."
