Lutsk police refused to open criminal case for impediment to journalist

02.02.2016, 18:00

Lutsk police never started criminal case based on complaint of journalist of Information Agency “Rivne agency of journalist investigations” Yuriy Horbach regarding impediment to work of mass media representatives at the elections of rector of Lutsk National Technical University conducted on June 17, 2015. District police inspector Yuriy Mikshevskyi issued report about such lack of the case, "Chetverta Vlada" informs. Yuriy Horbach complains that during the elections, he was not allowed to be present at counting of the ballots. The administration of the University justifies such conduct by the instructions of the Cabinet of Ministers, that establish the procedure that breaches the laws of Ukraine concerning the right of public to receive information.

The district police officer decided that the case is not worth investigating, and his decision was approved by police officials, but the journalist was not informed about this in timely manner, thus missing the deadline for contesting this resolution - a common trick police uses to avoid complaints.
