Law on language quotas agreed with all big TV groups –Syumar
The law on language quotas on TV was made agree with all big television companies, as Victoria Syumar, head of the Parliament committee on freedom of speech and information policy wrote in his Facebook page on April 18th, as to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. Syumar commented the statement made by the candidate for the presidency Volodymyr Zelensky on his project to review language quotas in mass media. “The most idiot corrections aiming to invalidate the law had been filed by the “Quartal 95” (TV company one of owners of which is Zelensky – ed.) , because it is not the only studio which is unable to produce the content in Ukrainian. They do not know Ukrainian. And these corrections were drawn up by someone who is far from lawmaking. We declined it, and the law had its positive effect: 92% of Ukrainian product in broadcasting. Only openly pro-Russian persons were against this law”, she wrote. Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that in case of victory at election, they would not revoke the laws on language quotas on TV and radio, but he would propose another approach to regulate media space.
