Kropyvnytsky City Council plans to bar journalists from entering unescorted
The Kropyvnytsky City Council plans to approve temporary regulations for entering its building. The rules will apply to journalists as well: it is proposed to only allow them to walk around the Council in the company of the chief press officer.
The draft decision by the City Council executive committee was published on August 16, reports the IMI representative in Kirovohrad oblast.
The document with the working title "On approval of the Temporary regulations of access to the administrative building of the Kropyvnytsky City Council" provides that the new rules will apply to employees and deputies of the City Council, members of the executive committee, visitors, medical and emergency workers, foreign delegations, individual foreigners and other groups of citizens.
Mass media representatives will only be allowed into the administration building upon showing the credentials of a full-time or freelance journalist or cameraperson. And, as already mentioned, accompanied by the responsible official.
As the IMI representative notes, a similar pass system has been in place in the Council for quite some time. Even before the start of the full-scale war, journalists had to call a press officer at the security checkpoint and prove that they have the right to work in the Council's premises in order to enter.
Local media are taking their time before commenting on the situation. They say they need to figure out how it will be different from the current procedure first, the IMI representative notes.
Since the draft decision was only made public yesterday, it is still unclear when the members of the executive committee will be voting on it.
