Kharkiv journalist claims about death threats after exposing violations of police

15.01.2013, 11:28

Zhanna Tytarenko, journalist of “Spravzhnya Varta” Kharkiv Internet-edition, claims that unknown people threatened her life and hinder her professional activities. She wrote this in her blog at the web-site of the edition.

"On the night of January 6, I heard a heavy knocking into the window, with swearing and threats:" ... Kill you! ... ". I started to regularly receive paper leaflets with threats since Dec 19, 2012. Since that time, police has visited me twice, "- she wrote.

According to the journalist, she began to receive threats after the publication of her materials about the activities of police. In particular, during recent months, she wrote articles about two facts of disappearance of young people in Kharkiv, which, according to their relatives, may have been organized by police officers. She also wrote materials about trials in the case of beating of historian Oleksiy Kornev by members of "Patriot of Ukraine" NGO.

Tytarenko wrote applications to the police and the local prosecutor’s office.

According to the website of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in the Kharkiv Oblast, the police check information about the threats. The case was taken under personal supervision by the regional police leadership, the web-site reports.
