June 6th: round table "Freedom of speech in Ukraine: challenges and eventual solutions" to be held

On June 6th, at 9:00 the Ukrinform is to host the round table "Freedom of speech in Ukraine: challenges and eventual solutions" on occasion of the Day of journalist of Ukraine. Participants of the event will discuss the main challenges and priorities in the media sphere, current legislative issues and tools to improve conditions of freedom of speech in Ukraine, as well as the results of reforming of state and municipal printed press. Organizers: Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine in common with the Council of Europe "Strengthening Freedom of the Media, Access to Information and Strengthening the Public Broadcasting System in Ukraine" and NGO "The Institute for Mass Information". Participants: officials of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information Policy, the National Police, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Information Policy, the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting, National public broadcaster of Ukraine (NPBU), Commission on journalism ethics, NGO "Institute of Mass Information" , as well as representatives of civil society and international organizations. This meeting has to be an opportunity for a comprehensive dialogue between public authorities, law enforcement agencies, civil society and international organizations to improve the condition of freedom of speech in Ukraine and legal protection of journalists.
