Judges placed suspected assaulter of camareman Vadym Makaryuk under home arrest

The court in Kharkiv has placed the suspect in a brutal beating of Vadym Makaryuk, camareman for news desk, under 24 hours a day home arrest, as Interfax-Ukraine news agency told. Such a decision was adopted by the judge on June 12 in the evening. According to the court ruling, Kozlyuk, 26, unemployed person, resident of Kharkiv, who is suspected perpetrator of the attack against the cameraman, is to be held under a home arrest with an electronic control device for one month and 28 days. The appeal can be filed not within five days. His lawyer said they would appeal against this decision. IMI informed that Vadym Makaryuk Vadym Makaryukwas injured as he was taking video pictures of the row involving the entrepreneurs and the marketplace administration on June 7th at the Barabashovo commercial center in Kharkiv. The assaulters beat Makaryuk, ran after him and kicked him on his head. Vadym Makaryuk was sent to the emergency hospital, where he was diagnosticated with the cerebral vascular hemorrhage. The investigators instituted the criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 345-1 (“Threat or violence against the journalist”), Part 1 of Art. 171 (“Obstruction to professional activities of the journalist”) and Part 2 of Art. 187 (“Robbery”) of the Criminal Code. On June 10, the deputy head of the Regional police department Serhiy Chyzh said that the police still did not recognize Vadym Makaryuk as aggrieved person, as he in unable to testify. On June 12, Kharkiv investigators identified a person and pressed charges against a person involved in this beating case.
