Journalists were not admitted to "alternative session" of Dnipropetrovsk city council

30.12.2015, 22:53

On December 29 in Dnipropetrovsk, journalists were selectively admitted to the "alternative session" of city council, and some mass media representatives could make it in only after the session was over. This is the report of regional IMI correspondent.

"Alternative session" of the city council was organized in the premises of Amur-Nyzhniodniprovskyi District Executive Committee of the city, it was initiated by a group of deputies "Opposition block" and "Hromadska Syla". The session started on 6 A.M.

The journalists report that a private security company was hired to keep them outside. The journalists and cameramen who were not admitted in were the filming crew of Hromadske TV Dnipro, Channel 9, Channel 51, Channel 34 and others. Some journalists, however, were admitted. Journalist of channel 9 Olha Vladimirova called police, yet police did not come, and the police officers who were found at the site did not react to impediments to the journalists. Vice-mayor Oleksander Sanzhara called this session "illegal". The decisions taken at the sessions included approval of additional financing for governmental agencies and "renaming" of the city of Dnipropetrovsk into Dnipropetrovsk (i.e.  "renaming" without changing the city name).
