Journalists of Espresso TV opposed to Shufrich's appointment as chairman Committee on freedom of speech

28.08.2019, 18:29
Photo credit: Youtube.com The journalists of the Espresso TV channel and website claimed to be outraged by the appointing of MP Nestor Shufrich as chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on freedom of speech, as to the statement they published on August 28 on the channel's website. The media recalled that on August 27 such a decision was made at a meeting of the preparatory group to organize the first session of the Verkhovna Rada of the 9th legislature. Although his candidacy must be approved in the session hall, the pro-presidential party “Servant of the People” and “Opposition Platform - For Life” have already agreed on this. "We consider it shameful that a person who was part of the fugitive ex-president Viktor Yanukovych’s coterie and who is today close to Putin's ally, Viktor Medvedchuk, is to supervise the freedom of the media in our country," the statement reads. IMI reported, on August 26, following the results of the session of the working group for the preparing of the first session of the Verkhovna Rada, the representative of the party "Opposition Platform - For Life" (OPFL) Vadym Rabinoviyh said that his faction was proposed to head the Committee on freedom of speech. On August 27, Media Movement claimed against that appointment of a OPFL’s representative as chairman of the Committee on freedom of speech.
