Journalists near Parliament picket against creation of Ministry of Information

On December 2, journalists were picketing near the building of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in protest against the plans to create the Ministry for the issues of informational policy. Activists of movements «Chesno» (“Honestly”) and «Stop Censorship» consider it inappropriate to create such an agency without any preliminary public discussion about it.

Several dozens of Ukrainian journalists, who came to the meeting, believe that this agency’s functions might overlap with the functions of existing structures. Also, they say it is not clear what exactly this new Ministry is intended for.
