Journalist investigator Christo Grozev wanted by Russian MIA
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation has put Christo Grozev, a journalist investigator at Bellingcat, on the federal wanted list. Mediazona reports this, having found his name in the Ministry's wanted persons database.
Grozev is wanted "for violating an article of the Criminal Code", but the article is not specified.
Christo Grozev is a journalist investigator and head of the Bellingcat project.
Bellingcat publishes investigations which often mention special services, famous politicians, and financiers. The group claims that it only uses open sources in their work.
As IMI reported, on July 26, the Russian Ministry of Justice added Bellingcat and the opposition media outlet "The Insider" to the list of undesirable organizations.
Indesirable organizations are prohibited from operating in Russia under the threat of administrative and criminal responsibility. Working with such organizations is also grounds for criminal prosecution. In addition, Roskomnadzor may require mass media to take down reports that use content from undesirable organizations.
