Journalist from Luhansk is been held captive by LPR for more than a month
On January 9, in Luhansk LPR militants took hostage a local journalist and civil activist Maria Varfolomeyeva and accused her of adjusting the Ukrainian artillery fire. This was reported on Hromadske.TV by the journalist Kostiantyn Reutsky on March 21.
According to the journalist, Maria was not hiding her pro-Ukrainian stance but she stayed in Luhansk because her grandmother was sick. Varfolomeyeva is still held captive. She was promised that she would be included in the list for prisoner exchange but this still has not happened.
As it was reported by Luhansk website Іnformator.lg.ua, on March 27, the so-called head of the LPR’s ‘Ministry of State Security’ Leonid Pasichnyj claimed that Varfolomeyeva’s case has been investigated and she faces a 15-year imprisonment.
As IMI found out, Maria Varfolomeyeva was working for the media outlet “Vilny Reporter.”
