Journalist from Kolomyia says local city council member threatened him

14.01.2016, 20:05

On January 13 in the town of Kolomyia (Ivano-Frankivska oblast), local city council member Ihor Ilchyshyn threatened freelancer journalist, member of the Independent Media Trade Union of Ukraine Yevhen Halych. Yevhen Halych reported this to IMI personally. According to the journalist, the incident took place during the session of the temporary land allocation commission that was considering the dispute between Hanna Nehrych (supported by Ilchyshyn) and city council secretary Liubomyr Zhupanskyi. Before, the journalist published an article describing how Ilchyshyn broke into the secretary's house. After this, Ilchyshyn threatened him by promising to "deal" with the journalist. Halych thinks that the threat was made due to his professional activities, and that Ilchyshyn might have serious motives to "deal" with the journalist, as the journalist was covering his professional activities related to violation of laws before.
