Journalist from Azerbaijan detained in the airport “Boryspil”
On October 14, in the morning, in the airport “Boryspil”, journalist from Azerbaijan Fikrat Guseinov was detained, an employee of Turan TV and newspaper Azaldyg. Guseinov's colleague reported this to executive director of IMI Oksana Romaniuk. “Most likely, Azerbaijan put him on Interpol wanted list, and Ukraine detained him based on the procedure. We are clarifying the information. If we confirm that he was in Interpol database, it will be the second case of repressive regimes using Interpol to pressure unwelcome journalists”, she wrote in her Facebook entry. The first one, she reminded, was Uzbek journalist Narzullo Okhunzhonov, who now is in pre-trial detention facility in Kyiv. “I think Interpol should be somehow more responsible about verifying information in their database. We will be discussing with international organizations to raise this issue with the Interpol, which turns into a mechanism of pressure against journalists”, the executive director of IMI said.
