A journalist Polade Aslanov was detained in Azerbaijan. He is accused of high treason, as Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty informed referring to the National security service. Aslanov is founder and editor in chief of web-based medias xeberman.com and press-az.com. The investigators claimed that the journalist secretly had met some foreign intelligence officers abroad and received rewards from them. The State Security Service also noted that Aslanov made the intelligence officers meet with other journalists. Human rights agencies have repeatedly pointed out that the press was under pressure of authorities in Azerbaijan. In the rating of the press freedom that the "Reporters sans frontieres" published in 2019, Azerbaijan is 166th out of 180 countries.
