Journalist community of Bukovyna complains about inaction of law enforcers

03.12.2014, 14:04

On December 2, the head of Chernivtsi branch of the Independent Media Trade Union, Vadym Pelekh, filed to the Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Chernivetska oblast an open address concerning law enforcers’ failure to move forward the cases related to local journalists. The number of illegal actions, like the recent double-burglary of the editorial office of the “Chas” newspaper, is growing, yet even after the second burglary law enforcers did not even provide a clear identification of the crime, the IMI regional correspondent reports. Law enforcers’ inaction causes increase of crimes against journalists, as criminals feel that they can get away with such actions. The Media trade union suggested that the local police administration should meet the journalists and inform the public what is being done in the oblast for prevention of crimes against mass media and for investigation of the notorious cases.
