Journalist can be sued for interview with protagonist of documentary "The Captives"

The cinema distribution company "86 Prokat" plans to sue the journalist of the media outlet "Bird In Flight" Ivan Siyak due to the interview with the documentary’s protagonist Volodymyr Tykhyi published on February 19. The company was conducting distribution of the film. Producer Nadiya Parfan informed “Detector Media” about this. According to her, the recording of the interview was done without the interviewee’s knowledge, and the published fragments were misleading, taken out of context and giving a distorted picture of the events described in the film. Ivan Siyak disagrees with the accusations and claims that the interview was recorded with the interviewee’s knowledge and in good faith.

 The film itself is about the tragic events of February 2014 in downtown Kyiv, and the interviewee admits that he was shooting at the riot police (the publication name was "I shot them in the back, it's true"), yet from the publication it was unclear that Tykhyi was shooting in the back the people who were sniping the unarmed people at the Maidan square, the distributor company producer claims.
