Interior Ministry: Criminal proceedings into beating Channel 5 reporter opened under two articles
Criminal proceedings in connection with the beating of a correspondent of Channel 5, Olha Snitsarchuk, in Kyiv on Saturday, May 18, have been launched under two articles and a pre-trial investigation has started, Kyiv Post reported.
The press service of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine reported on Sunday, May 19, that the investigative department of Shevchenkivsky District Police Office has opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 125 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on intentional infliction of slight bodily injury and Article 171 on obstruction of legal professional activity of journalists.
The police are carrying out a range of immediate investigatory actions in order to identify people involved in this crime and punish them.
As reported, at around 1420 on May 18 a scuffle occurred between participants of rallies on Velyka Zhytomyrska Street. Young men threw bottles with water and stones at each other. Several people were injured in the scuffle.
Meanwhile, Channel 5 reported that its journalist and a photographer of the Kommersant publication were injured in the incident.
On the same day, the police opened a criminal case under Article 125 of the Criminal Code on intentional infliction of slight bodily injury.
