In Volynska oblast, rayon council fired editor of newspaper “Kolos,” although its staff was against it

On November 7, the session of Ivanychi rayon council (Volynska oblast) fired the editor-in-chief of the newspaper «Kolos» Valentyna Petroshchuk and ordered the head of the rayon council to hire instead one of her subordinates – Tamara Havryliuk. The deputies ignored the decision of the newspaper's staff to keep Petroshchuk on the position of the editor-in-chief.

 The staff believes that Petroshchuk was dismissed so that the local authorities can appoint a more compliant journalist and control her editorial policy and decisions.
