In the period of the military conflict in Donbas, nine journalists died covering the hostilities. This was reported by the Verkhovna Rada speaker Andriy Parubiy on June 7, Interfaks-Ukraina reports.

“According to the statistics, 9 journalists died performing their professional duties. Many were volunteer soldiers: 5 journalists died as servicemen on the frontlines. Many (journalists - ed.) went through the horrors and hell of captivity”, Parubiy told the journalists in Kyiv on June 7.

In addition, the Speaker awarded 11 Ukrainian journalists, who cover the military conflict in the ATO zone. According to the Speaker's press secretary Andriy Kovaliov, more journalists were nominated, yet some of them are working in the area of anti-terrorist operation in the east of Ukraine, and will receive their awards upon return.

For the context, on June 6 the Day of Journalist was celebrated in Ukraine.
