In the case of murder of journalist Sergiyenko, there a new suspect

Investigators of State Investigations Bureau informed on August 6 about the suspect status to the member of criminal organization associated with murder of journalist Vasyl Sergiyenko in April of 2014. This was reported at the website of the State Investigations Bureau.

He was informed that he is suspected of being a member of criminal organization (p. 1 art. 255 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the version of the investigators, on April 4, 2014, the suspect participated in kidnapping, torture, and, later, in murder of the Hero of Ukraine, journalist Vasyl Sergiyenko in the city of Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi, Cherkaska oblast.

If proven guilty, the suspect can be sentenced to 5 to 12 years in prison.

The pre-trial investigation is pending.

As IMI reported, on April 4, 2014, journalist and civil activist Vasyl Sergiyenko was kidnapped in the city of Korsun-shevchenkivskyi, Cherkaska oblast, from the yard of his own house. In several days his tortured body was found in a forest in Korsuch-Shevchekivskyi rayon.

On July 11, 2015, the officials of the prosecutor's office in cooperation with the local Ministry of Internal Affairs administration detained a resident of Kyiv as suspect in murder of Vasyl Sergiyenko.

The people suspected in kidnapping and murder of Sergiyenko are Maksym Rusin, Volodymyr Voronkov, Viktor Horbenko, Valentyna Zavrazhyna, Roman Nedybaliuk, and Vadym Melnyk. None of them confessed during the trial.
