In Svitlovodsk, shots fired at local newspaper’s windows

28.05.2017, 11:15

On May 2, the staff of the newspaper “Svitlovodsk Vechirniy” (Svitlovodsk, Kirovohradska oblast) found in the windows of the editorial office four bullet holes. This was reported by the online media outlet “Svitlovodsk.”

The representative of IMI in Kirovohradska oblast confirmed this information with the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Tetiana Drozdova.

“We had a workday yesterday, we were finalizing the new issue of the newspaper, and came early to the editorial office. We immediately found four bullet holes in our windows. Luckily, nobody was injured, but the situation is very unpleasant anyhow. We summoned the police at once and informed SBU as well as staff of the town council, with whom we share the building. It feels like an attempt to intimidate. After our newspaper moved out of state ownership. We have rather tense relations with the town mayor. It may be just the next reminder we are not welcome here”, Drozdova commented the situation to the IMI representative.

The head of the Public Relations Sector of the Chief Chief Department of the National Police in Kirovohradska oblast Vitalina Bevzenko informed that based on the fact of shooting at the editorial office’ windows a criminal case was opened under Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – “Hooliganism”. Investigation is pending.

The newspaper “Svitlovodsk Vechirniy” has been in print since 1991. Earlier it was the newspaper of the town council, but it is now not in the state ownership anymore.
