In Rivne, employees of government-owned higher educational institution ignore journalists' requests

16.02.2015, 22:30

Journalists of Rivne media outlet “Chetverta Vlada” ("The Fourth Power") claim that starting from December 16, 2014, employees of Rivne State Humanitarian University have been ignoring their requests to provide information.

As the media outlet's journalists Lilia Protsyshyna and Antonina Torbich say, earlier the educational institution officials procrastinated, having the journalists wait up to 20 days only to clarify who is responsible for answering their requests, and now the university staff simply ignore all journalist requests and do not register them. Instead of giving requested information, they keep delaying and giving excuses instead of answering (for example, say that the requests were lost in e-mail, asking to send hardcopies, saying hardcopies form does not have outcoming number and it makes this request invalid, etc.).

The questions that the journalists requested were related to the situation with corruption in the University. Those were general questions, like what the amount of the University budget for 2014 was, what salaries of rector and pro rector were, whether there were any complaints about bribery from students, etc.

According to the journalists, similar questions were sent to the National University for Water Industry and Nature Use and to Ostrozka Academy, and both universities provided the answers.

The journalists sent 10 requests to the Ministry of Education and to the Parliamentary Ombudsman for human rights regarding this situation. In case of absence of adequate response, the journalists plan to sue the university.
