In Odeska oblast, mental hospital staff attacked journalists of Channel 7

In February 11, in the village of Zavodivka, Odeska oblast, the filming crew of Channel 7, the camera operator Valentyn Mirza and journalist Yulia Fedorova, as well as a member of the public committee were attacked by the staff members of mental hospital No3, Channel 7’ s website reports.

The journalists came to the hospital together with representatives of the workers’ congress of an NGO with the purpose of inspection after numerous reports from the institution’s former and current employees about its management’ corruption and abuse of power.

As the TV channel reports, the hospital administrator and  physician pushed the committee member Tetiana Sluchanska out of the lobby and literally pushed her down the stairs. As a result, she sustained a head injury and lost consciousness. This fact was recorded on video by the TV channel’s camera operator Valentyn Mirza. After that, the hospital staff tried to take away his camera and smash it; they also were twisting the arms of the journalist Yulia Fedorova, who was filming the incident on her phone.

 According to the website of the Chief Department of the National police in Odeska oblast, the police are conducting the inspection of the fact of obstruction to journalist activities.
