In Mykolaiv journalists won case on access to information

18.04.2019, 17:35
On April 12th, the Mykolaiv district administrative court ordered the company “City for people- Mykolaiv” to provide requested information to the Center of journalistic investigations. Thus, the court upheld the claim filed by the Center of journalistic investigations. The journalists had sent an inquiry letter to “City for people- Mykolaiv” about its structure and functioning. The judges settled the denial to provide a reply was unlawful. The journalists of the Center of journalistic investigations told IMI during six months they were working on a material on functioning of the company “City for people- Mykolaiv”, after several complaints from citizens whose apartment buildings are served by this company. The people pay for services of “City for people- Mykolaiv”, but during 6 months period they did not see any employee of the company to come to work. For instance, a resident of Mykolaiv told he called for several times to the company asking to repair leaking roof, but was told the company had no repairmen. The residents of other buildings often was told the company had no yard cleaners. So, the journalists sent an inquiry letter to the company to get to know the quantity and the structure of the staff, what company was subcontracting partner. The company refused to provide us with that information.
