In Mykolaiv, city council member tried to remove journalist from working group session

19.03.2018, 17:13
In Mykolaiv, March 17, the member of Mykolaiv city council Vyacheslav Apanasenko demanded the journalist of online media outlet “Novyny-N”, Maria Dorokhina, to leave the working group session where the issues of homeless animals were discussed, “Novyny-N” report. Based to the information from the media outlet, Apanasenko stopped the session and requested the journalist to leave the office where the working group was meeting. As it turned out, the council member took offence because of the website's publication, where he was quoted when he said "the granny has bitten the dog", backed by audio evidence. The council member requested to remove the journalist "because she does not know the rules of ethics of journalism". One of the council members, Ihor Kopiyka, explained that they do not have a right to forbid a journalist to record and to report the event. Apanasenko insisted, saying that the journalist will again distort his words. He even pretended he wanted to leave, but was asked by colleagues not to do it. As a result, the journalist remained where she was, but Apanasenko took several lashes at her, calling her a "monster", and named some other journalists "crippled". Maria Dorokhina said she does not intend to file an official complaint about this case to the police.
