13.06.2017, 12:43

In Lvivska oblast, officers of the Security Service of Ukraine together with the local law enforcement uncovered and detained the editor-in-chief of an online media outlet for demanding a bribe from an official. This was reported on the SBU website.

The law enforcement officers established that the editor-in-chief, who also is a head of a local NGO, demanded USD 500 from the director of a branch of a state enterprise. This sum was to stop the journalist investigation and publication of the information about the official in the online media outlet.

“The editor-in-chief received the sum in hryvnias to his bank card and after that informed the official that the exposing material was commissioned by his competitors to get him fired”, the Security Service informed.

The man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Code of Process of Ukraine after a session of the board of the NGO.

The criminal investigation is pending.
