02.07.2014, 21:15

The rector of the Mykola Lysenko National Music Academy Ihor Pylatiuk filed a lawsuit against journalists for publishing information he believes is false. On June 19, Halytsky rayon court of the city of Lviv initiated a procedure following his lawsuit. Lviv branch of the Independent Media Trade Union of Ukraine believes this lawsuit aims to tread on freedom of press.

The claimant demands refuting of the information about him, which was published in materials by Natalia Dudko (newspaper «Ratusha»), Yulia Lishchenko (newspaper «Vysoky Zamok»), Aerhiy Bobra (Agency of Information and Analytics «Hal-Info»), Denys Tymoshenko (Gazeta.ua), the newspaper «Novy Pohliad» and the informational agency «Galnet».

Pylatiuk was angry because in their materials the journalists expose the facts of his corruption, protectionism and abuse of power for political gain.

Several of the journalists state their materials present the position of the academy students Pylatiuk's stance on the issue, and also that Pylatiuk did not address their media outlets to refute these materials.
