In Kyiv, men who introduced themselves as SBU, beat photo reporter and activist Roman Malko

17.06.2015, 01:53

On June 12 in Kyiv, men who introduced themselves as officers of the Security Service of Ukraine, beat the military photo reporter and activist of NGO “AutoMaidan Kyiv”, Roman Malko. Roman Malko reported this to IMI.

According to Roman, it was a random conflict. He was driving his car when a Tuareg jeep with the plates number АА7707РР cut him off. Three men jumped out of the jeep, started yelling that they were SBU officers. Two of them started beating Roman, but several AutoMaidan activists came to his rescue and blocked the attackers’ car. They called police and composed a protocol for the incident. Roman was hospitalized with multiple injuries, including brain concussion. Later it was clarified that one of the attackers was Oleksander Polkovchenko, a former head of the SBU branch in Kharkiv, and his son. According to Malko, only one of the attackers was indeed an SBU officer.  Mr. Malko is not sure if this case is related to his journalist activities. Investigation of the case is pending.
