In Kovel, conflict about access to charity foundation's conference emerged

30.06.2017, 12:59

In Kovel, Volynska oblast, at the celebration of the fifth anniversary of the charity foundation of the people's deputy (MP) Stepan Ivakhiv, not all journalists were able to get inside for the event. The event was held on June 25 in the premises of the Student Youth Palace, local website “Pro Kovel” reports.

As the media outlet reports, before the event, civil activists and journalists were gathering near the Palace, as well as city council representatives. Ivakhiv's assistants at the entrance did not admit the journalists, telling them to wait until the ceremony begins. In the end, they were admitted, and Ivakhiv's assistant Denys Pyatyhorets said that press and activists were welcome to attend, their only concern was that there would not be enough places for people with invitations.

IMI's media lawyer Maksym Ratushnyi said that because the charity foundation was initiating the event itself, the law, as far as he knows, does not require such event to be open for the public.
