In Kherson region, assistant of Member of Parliament broke editor-in-chief's arm

02.04.2016, 21:27

On March 29, in the city of Nova Kakhovka, Khersonska oblast, Dmytro Solovyov, an assistant of people's deputy (MP) from Petro Poroshenko Bloc, Ivan Vynnyk, broke an arm of the editor-in- chief of the local communal newspaper “Nova Kakhovka”, Yevhen Kavun, Ukrainski Novyny  reports.

Vasyliev broke into the editor-in- chief’s office and demanded to publish an article about elections with the comments of Vasyliev's wife (who works as Vynnyk's assistant, too) Liudmyla Vasylieva. The editor explained that the newspaper is already formatted and ready for printing, and they can consider publication at a later date, but Vasyliev was not satisfied with the response and grabbed the editor's left arm, which was injured as a result. The editor filed a complaint to the police, and the case was opened based on Article 171 of the Criminal Code (obstruction to professional activities of journalist).
