In Kherson, five men beat journalist for his request to take car away from sidewalk

08.11.2014, 00:05

On November 5, in Kherson about half past four five unidentified men beat Valeriy Myroniuk, journalist and member of the Independent Media Trade Union. This was reported by the Independent Media Trade Union of Ukraine.

According to Valeriy, he was walking to a bus stop near Dniprovsky Market to pick up his wife. On the sidewalk, there were two cars parked – a Mercedes and a BMW.

Myroniuk told the driver of one of the cars that the sidewalk was not for parking and asked to take the car elsewhere. Five men jumped out of the car and attacked him as well as an older man who tried to stop them from beating Myroniuk. They also kicked the phone out of the hands of a young woman, who tried to film the incident.  The police unit came and took Myroiniuk’s statement but they did not detain the attackers or canvass the witnesses.

The journalist was taken to a hospital by an ambulance. At hospital he was met by his attackers. Who threatened to beat him even worse if he went to the police.
