In Kharkiv, journalist denied oblast councilmember’s income declaration
Journalist Pavlo Novyk was denied his request to receive a copy of the income declaration of the member of Kharkiv oblast council Ihor Yasynskyi and the director of the communal utility service enterprise “Zhylkomservis” Oleksander Yakovlev, who was accused of embezzlement of 10 million hryvnias. Both rejections were worded in the same way, IMI representative in Kharkiv oblast reports.
Pavlo Novyk, who cooperates with the project "Nashi Hroshi" and NGO "Kharkiv Anti-Corruption Center", filed his requests on June 13 and June 22, and received a written denial to provide both declarations.
The letters quoted the Law "On bases of prevention and counteraction to corruption”, although based on the Law “On access to public information”, declarations of council members and public servants for last year must be published.
