In Donetsk region, journalist complained to police about denial of access to election committee session

16.10.2015, 13:09

On October 13 in Kurakhove (Donetska oblast), journalist of the media outlet “Tochka Opory” filed a complaint to Maryinskyi rayon police department about denial of access to local election committee sessions.

According to the journalist, he was not able to visit even one session of Maryinska rayon territorial election committee and Kurakhivska town territorial election committee. The heads of the committees insisted that to visit their session a journalist has to have accreditation for working in the ATO zone – as they say, because of high profile security measures in place due to the town being close to the frontline. They agree to answer the journalist's questions only in written, which is in breach of the Law of Ukraine "On local elections" that guarantees access for press to all public sessions of election committees, and other Laws and regulations of Ukraine that regulate journalism.
