In Brovary, journalists were manhandled to prevent them from attending outreach event by "Batkivshchyna" parliamentary candidate

30.09.2014, 00:25

On September 28, in Brovary, during an outreach event by Oleh Kyshchuk, the «Batkivshchyna» parliamentary candidate running in a majority constituency, unidentified men were preventing the journalists of the online media outlet “Mayesh Pravo Znaty” Andriy Kachor and Alina Diachenko from attending an open campaign event.

According to Kachor, who reported the incident, two bulky men rudely and forcefully tried not to let the journalists enter the halls; these men gave no explanation to their actions and did not introduce themselves.

As a result of the altercation, one of the attackers, who was later identified as Andriy Melnyk, took several punches at the video camera of the “Mayesh Pravo Znaty”’s editor-in-chief Alina Diachenko.

The journalists called the police, and when a unit arrived on site of the incident, to the campaign event venue, the attackers began to deny any interfering with the journalists’ work.

After the police questioned the journalists and the attackers, the men stopped meddling with the journalists but kept threatening them.
