The Institute of Mass Information’s network of regional Mediabaza hubs has rebranded: the 15 centers for media professionals received new logos and a visual indentity overhaul.
The new branding will make the network even more recognisable and modern, and be more convenient for daily use on social media, on websites and in offline projects, explained IMI designer Ihor Isychenko.
“The Mediabazas have come a long way from a regional media project to a network with its own distinct identity. The earliest visuals were a thing of their time: dark backgrounds, yellow accents, triangle icons harking back to the play button. This worked as a practical solution, but over time the Mediabazas needed a more comprehensive and flexible visual system.
“When I started working on updating the style, it was important for me to keep the Mediabazas’ connection with the Institute of Mass Information. The Mediabazas are an IMI project, so these ties had to be reflected in the logo. This is how the idea of an icon with the letter ‘M’ in a rounded outline came to be: its visual logic is close to IMI’s branding while having a character of its own, softer, friendlier, and better adapted to digital formats,” Ihor Isychenko said.

“When I took over the IMI’s regional hub communications a few months ago, I defined several priority goals: the first was to update the project’s visual identity. There are Mediabazas in 15 cities across Ukraine, and every day I see my colleagues from these cities work, assist Ukrainian and international media professionals, I see their impact and efforts to improve regional journalism and unite the community around themselves. Their desire to change and stay resilient in the face of Russian terror. So I wanted to add more visibility, vitality and colour to the visual style. And with this, to emphasize how original, bright, and cool this project is,” added Lesia Lutsiuk, the Mediabazas communications manager.
The Mediabazas are a network of regional hubs created by the Institute of Mass Information in the autumn of 2022 to support the work of independent journalists amid Russia’s full-scale war on Ukraine. The Mediabazas offer body armour and classes free of charge; a working space supplied with electricity and Internet connection, etc.
IMI’s Mediabazas are funded with the support from the European Union.
