IMI provided the President of Ukraine a list of main problems in media sphere

NGO “Institute of mass information” prepared and provided to the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, a developed a statement with a list of main problems in the media sphere, resolution of which requires political will. The statement was given to the head of the state by the executive director of IMI Oksana Romaniuk on January 17, during the meeting of the President with the  representatives of civil society. In particular, IMI brought to the President's attention the investigations of the murders of journalists Pavlo Sharemet and Vyacheslav Veremiy; also, high-profile cases of attacks against journalists by law enforcement officers; support of Public TV and Radio; problem of impunity for crimes against journalists and necessity to adopt and implement media reforms. In response, the President promised to pay special attention to the case of, and to take all measures to punish the attackers against the journalists of the program “Skhemy”. Also, Petro Poroshenko promised to support reforms in the media, in particular, approval of law on audiovisual services and amendment of the Criminal Code of Ukraine to make court proceedings more transparent. During the meeting of the President with the civil society representatives, the discussion was about counteraction to corruption, cancellation of e-declarations for anti-corruption activists, and others.
