Hackers destroyed almost all information at web site of Chas Internet-edition

25.01.2013, 00:56
On January 23, 2013, unknown hackers destroyed almost all information at the web site of “Chas” Bukovynian online-edition, up to July of 2012. The edition’s administrator posted this information at the Chas’ Facebook  page, BookNews reported.

"Dear readers! Unfortunately, due to problems with our hosting provider, all the information on our web site till July 2012 was destroyed. Sorry for the inconvenience" - the administrator wrote.

Later he told more details: "They say that yesterday [January 22 - Ed.] someone started to erase our materials, and reached July 2012… and the backup is only till December 28, so, if we manage to renew materials up to December 28 - it will be great, and if not, the work will be lost in vain... All the news suddenly began to disappear, chronologically from yesterday, and if hosting would not have blocked it, all the news would be destroyed forever! Yesterday [January 22 - Ed.] we posted the news about a Party of Regions member who spoke against national deputy Papiyev. But was it really the reason [of the attack]? It’s a pity that we lost the work," – the administrator said.

He also did not rule out that the edition will turn to the police about the attack.

Chas journalist Nadia Virna told IMI: "Someone broke the code, entered our control panel, and began to eliminate the news, all the news for half a year were erased. Physically, one man could not do it, perhaps, it was done by a program. We were so shocked. We used to post “serious materials”, and sometime our web site worked too slowly, but we did not connect it with the attacks, "- the journalist said.

She also said that January 23, 2013 they posted an address of the Party of Regions member Igor Mykhayliuk to Prime Minister Mykola Azarov about problems in the region. In the address, Mykhailyuk claimed about corruption in the region, in particular, connected with the governor’s son Papiyev, who entered the parliament.

"It was the only such material that caused the response. But how it is connected with the disappearance of the information from the web site, we do not know.."-  the journalist said.
