Energoatom: Anonymous Telegram channels spread fake news about an emergency at the Khmelnytskyi NPP
Energoatom warns that anonymous Telegram channels are spreading fake news about their company, alleging that there has been an emergency at the Khmelnytskyi NPP which caused a spike in the radiation levels in Khmelnytskyi and Rivne oblasts, reports the Energoatom press office.
According to the company, the false reports were posted on April 30.
"The Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant is operating as usual. There have been no deviations from the normal work of the nuclear plant, just as there have been no 'emergency situations'. The radiation level at the station does not exceed the current standards," Energoatom reported.
The company notes that data on the radiation level at the industrial sites and in the monitored areas of the nuclear plants owned by JSC Energoatom can be accessed here.
"The appearance of such posts proves that the aggressor state will use any pretext to destabilize the society in our country, discredit the state authorities and undermine our state's capabilities for further fight," the company concluded.
On January 22, 2024, the State Emergency Service said that cyber scammers were sending messages on its behalf with suspicious links to an evacuation plan. The SES stated that they were not the ones sending out these messages.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has warned about fake news spread on behalf of the State Emergency Service, alleging that the Khmelnytskyi NPP has been damaged by a Russian missile strike and evacuation was needed.
