Editor-in-chief of newspaper “Nedelia” reports cyber attack against editorial office’ server

27.07.2017, 15:02
The Hlukhiv newspaper “Nedelia” for the first time in 18 years was issued with missing text as a result of a cyber attack that destroyed all information on the editorial office server. This was reported by the newspaper’s editor-in- chief Oksana Kovalenko on the official website of the media outlet. Based on her words, the emergency took place when the issue was being finalized for print. The editors lost all materials and photos for the issue, and the newspaper archive of previous issues, and the staff prepared the new issue of the newspaper from scratch, all night on the eve of Wednesday, as the editor's message in the newspaper detailed. The editors so far cannot tell who ordered the attack. They only mention that the local authorities lately have been pressuring the newspaper hard, "as never under any previous mayor". This was not an attack against the server, it was attack against freedom of speech," Oksana Kovalenko said. Police was called to the office, and an official complaint was filed.
