Donetsk People’s Republic threatens "Segodnia" editorial office in Donetsk
Representatives of the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic” threaten the staff of the Donetsk editorial office of the newspaper “Segodnia” and the website Segodnya.ua and demand that the newspaper were withdrawn from sale because of a critical article about their organization. They called the editorial office several times with threats; at 6 a.m. the DPR gunmen broke into the print shop ‘Novy Svit’ in Donetsk and demanded to stop circulation of special issues of newspapers that criticize separatists’ actions. They demanded to bring back to the print shop the newspapers "Segodnia", "Donetskie Novosti", and "Priazovsky Rabochiy."
The newspaper «Segodnia» is a part of the holding SKM owned by a Donetsk oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, who on May 19 openly said he opposed the separatists of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic. The businessman’s statement outraged the terrorists and they promised they would take over his enterprises. On May 21, Akhmetov published another statement, in which he called the DPR gunment ‘cheats’ and threatened them with punishment.
