Criticism of authorities on the rise compared to December 2022 – KIIS

Compared to December 2022, criticism of the authorities is growing. In particular, the share of those who trust the Verkhovna Rada dropped from 35% to 15%, and the share of those who do not trust it increased from 34% to 61%.

This is evidenced by the all-Ukrainian survey on the dynamics of trust in social institutions in 2021–2023 by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, conducted between November 29 and December 9, 2023.

Trust in the government has dropped from 52% to 26% and distrust increased from 19% to 44%. While a downward trend is present in the case of the President as well, he still retains the overwhelming trust of the Ukrainian public. Currently, 62% trust the President, while 18% do not. In December 2022, 84% trusted the President, 5% did not. Accordingly, while in December 2022 the trust/distrust balance for the President was +80%, now it is +42%. So there is a significant decrease on one hand, but the trend remains unequivocally positive with a significant preponderance of those who trust the President compared to those who do not trust him.

The Armed Forces retain absolute trust in society: 96% trust the Armed Forces both in December 2022 and now. In addition, 88% of Ukrainians trust V. Zaluzhny (only 4% do not trust him).

Confidence in the Security Service of Ukraine dropped slightly, but the majority of Ukrainians trust it – 58% against 16% who do not trust it (in December 2022, 63% trusted the Security Service of Ukraine, 9% did not). At the same time, trust in the police dropped more sharply – from 58% in December 2022 to 41% now (while distrust increased from 14% to 29%).

Also, according to the all-Ukrainian survey on the dynamics of trust in social institutions in 2021–2023 by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, conducted between November 29 and December 9, 2023, the trust in Ukrainian media dropped significantly in 2023, with trust indicators going back to the December 2021 level.
