Crimea turned into grey area without free press - Committee for protection of journalists

15.07.2015, 21:49

Russian authorities turned the annexed Crimea into a grey area where there are no independent or unsympathetic journalists. So says the report of the Journalists’ Protection Committee about freedom of press in Crimea annexed by Russia, named “Crimean Journalists' Choice: Immigration or Russian Censorship”, Krym.Realii informs.

The committee characterizes the situation in Crimea as “grim.”

“Many independent journalists left the peninsula after a series of assaults, searches, arrests, and pressure, and Ukrainin TV and radio companies transferred their offices to Ukraine’s mainland after the regional authorities denied them local broadcasting”, the organization's study concludes.
